Reflex games: dodge, catch and keep up

Games: 27

Hesitate for half a second and the run is over. That's the rule behind nearly every game here: obstacles rush at you, the pace climbs and you have to act before you've finished thinking. There are close to thirty of them, and they vary a lot: one-button arcade games, runners, space shooters, racing, platformers and even puzzles played against the clock.

In The Last Tunnel you fly down a tube full of obstacles and dodge them by spinning around its spiral walls. Blunt Arrow is about precision: the arrow can't pierce more than one object at a time while the circle keeps shrinking. Match the Color! keeps changing your ball's colour and asks you to land on the matching block, and it openly warns you it's hard. Catcher flips the usual setup: you are the obstacle, using a ball, gloves and a hammer to stop runners reaching the finish. If you want fighting on top of reflexes, Full Ninja has you leaping across rooftops and brawling with other fighters.

These suit short sessions on a commute or a break, and anyone who enjoys chasing their own high score. For a gentle start, try The Clouds: one button and a player leaderboard to climb.
